Metro Detroit's first Jollibee location sets opening date

It's finally here.

The highly anticipated opening of metro Detroit's first location of the popular Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee is set to debut.

The chain's new Sterling Heights location, on Hall Road in front of Lakeside Mall, opens on Jan. 12 The Sterling Heights location, a former Denny's according to the Macomb Daily, was first announced in late 2021.

On opening day, the first 100 customers who spend $20 or more will get free Chickenjoy each month for a year, from Feb. 2024 to Jan. 2025, according to a Facebook post. On its day 2 opening the first 100 customers who spend $20 or more will receive a free Jollibee Beanie. And on the third day, the first 100 customers who spend $20 or more will receive a free Jollibee tote bag.

Jollibee is well-known for its highly acclaimed Chickenjoy, the chain's signature hand-breaded fried chicken.  Chickenjoy, according to its website, is available in pieces with sides and by the bucket. Jollibee is also known for its sweet-style Jolly Spaghetti that's topped with ham, ground meat, and hot dog, and Palabok Fiesta, a Filipino noodle dish with garlic sauce, sauteed pork, shrimp and egg, according to the website.

Other noted menu items are Jollibee's chicken sandwich with umami mayo and a spicy version topped with jalapeno slices, burgers, and its peach mango pie.

Jollibee Foods brand was founded in 1978 and now operates more than 1,400 locations in countries across the globe. The chain entered the U.S. in 1998 with its first location in California and now has more than 70 nationwide. Jollibee in Sterling Heights is at 44945 Woodridge Drive. The restaurant will be open 9 a.m.-10 p.m. daily for dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru service.
