“How I Met Your Mother” Star Josh Radnor Reveals He's Getting Married 'In an Unexpected Twist'

The actor and singer announced the news after playing his song “Brooklyn Girl” during his sold out NYC tour stop on Thursday night

Josh Radnor is getting married!

The How I Met Your Mother star, 49, revealed his plans to exchange vows after playing his song “Brooklyn Girl” during his sold-out NYC tour stop on Thursday night, ahead of the release of his new album Eulogy, Vol. I on Friday.

The actor and singer shared on stage that he wrote the song after meeting his bride-to-be at his friend’s “psychedelic” event, adding, “In an unexpected twist, we’re getting married.”

Radnor’s representatives did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

While Radnor has not yet named the lucky woman, he admitted in an interview with Page Six earlier this month at the premiere of his miniseries Fleishman Is In Trouble that he was in a happy relationship.

“During the filming of this, I was very much newly with someone [who] I’m still with and continue to be very excited about,” he shared.

Radnor, who stars as Adam Epstein in the Hulu drama revolving around a couple’s divorce, also relayed his fears about tying the knot to the outlet.

“In some ways, I’ve always been scared of a bad marriage, spouses that were at odds with each other,” he admitted. “So there’s something relieving about being able to play that out in a fictional context.”

He added, “Maybe it means you won’t have to do as much of that in real life.”

The actor revealed to PEOPLE earlier this month while chatting about his new single “Learning” that he had been sharing a home in Brooklyn with his fiancée, and said that his new album tackles the “full menu of emotions” from his life — including being “in love” — which is highlighted with his new cover album art.

“There's a lot of death imagery on the album, but I mean it both literally and metaphorically. A lot of it is about looking at the endings of chapters in your life and then finding the beauty in a beginning of a new chapter," he noted.

Radnor who has admitted to being very “private” about his personal life, has opened up here and there over the years about his feelings on relationships. In 2021, he revealed on the YouTube series Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson that enjoyed having the “uncomfortable conversations” with his girlfriend at the time. However, it's unclear if that relationship is the same one he's in now.

“I feel more honest in this relationship than I’ve ever been and she is too,” he said. “We just are able to have these uncomfortable conversations without feeling like the relationship is threatened and… it’s going to blow everything up or we’re going to get in a big fight.

“We’ve been pretty brave about that,” he added. “So, I’m really enjoying that.”

Radnor was previously linked to Lindsay Price and Minka Kelly.
