Mesilla Valley Film Society hosting weekend of short subject films
The Mesilla Valley Film Society is hosting two short film showcases this weekend – finalists from the Manhattan Short Film Festival and the eighth annual Femme Frontera Filmmaker Showcase.
Manhattan Short Film Festival
Sept. 28 through Oct. 8 marks the 26th annual Manhattan Short Film Festival. This festival is unique in that the final 10 films will be seen by audiences in over 500 locations across the world. Viewers also have the chance to vote for their favorite film, determining the winners of the festival’s Best Film and Best Actor awards.
According to the festival website, the winners of the awards will automatically be Academy Award-qualified.

7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30
2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1
7:30 Wednesday, Oct. 4
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5

“Sunless” (U.S.)
“Voice Activated” (Australia)
“Yellow” (Afghanistan)
“Tuulikki” (Finland)
“The Family Circus” (U.S.)
“Career Day” (U.S.)
“Snail” (Iran)
“The Record” (Switzerland)
“The Stupid Boy” (U.K.)
“Soleil De Nuit” (Canada)
Femme Frontera Filmmaker Showcase
Femme Frontera is an organization that highlights films by women and non-binary filmmakers in the borderland region, including Las Cruces, El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. The eighth annual film showcase took place in El Paso in early September.
The films will be screened at the Fountain Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.
The Fountain Theatre is located at 2469 Calle de Guadalupe, Mesilla. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time online at mesillavalleyfilm.org.
