When two of Charlotte’s best coffee shops combine forces, the city’s caffeinated community perks up.

Sorry for the pun (but we had to).

When the news was announced that Not Just Coffee and Undercurrent Coffee were combining forces to create Night Swim Coffee, a celebration was had among those of us who start our days with mug in hand. And this weekend, Night Swim’s Oakhurst location is celebrating its grand opening.

Night Swim Coffee is a specialty coffee roastery and cafe, with a flagship roastery and cafe in Lower South End at 4500 Old Pineville Road. It will serve as the official roaster for:

Before the roastery opens, the cafes will serve coffee from Counter Culture Coffee and Onyx Coffee Lab.

More than coffee

Don’t miss the art: If you’re at Night Swim between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, you’ll get to see the MoRA neighborhood’s Patchwork project dedication, being held in conjunction with the coffee shop’s grand opening celebration. Here are the details:

8 a.m.: Yoga will be taught by Grace Millsap of NoDa Yoga Oakhurst on the Night Swim patio.

11 a.m.: MoRA will dedicate the “Wonder” mural (lead artist is MyLoan Dinh) on the patio closest to Chippendale Drive and Monroe Road. MoRA’s neighbors contributed to the mural as well: “It was important for us that folks could see themselves in the work,” Dinh said in a statement.

Also: There will be music, a DJ, food from VeGo Togo’s food truck in addition to Night Swim’s cafe menu and drinks.

Pro tip: On your way home, stop by OMG Donuts & Coffee for some yummy apple fritters at the bakery’s new location. You’re full of VeGo and Night Swim, you say? The fritters will keep: they make a great after-dinner treat.
