Mercedes Moné was willing to wait for the right time for her AEW in-ring debut.

After signing with AEW and debuting in March, Mercedes Moné wrestled in her first match for the company at AEW Double or Nothing on May 26. There, she beat Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Championship. Prior to the pay-per-view, Moné suffered an ankle injury that sidelined her for nearly a year.

During the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrum, Mercedes Moné was asked about her AEW in-ring debut coming so long after her debut.

“Me and Tony have been talking for a very long time, so people don’t even actually know when I got signed to AEW,”Mercedes Moné said. “The beginning of the year, we talked, signed the deal, made it happen. We were really talking about when was the perfect place and time for me to debut in the ring. We knew March 13 was going to be amazing in the Boston Garden. When Tony called me, he said, ‘I have the perfect place for you to debut. Boston, baby.’

“I was like, ‘Tony, you are just speaking my language. You just speaking the Mone.’ Then he said, ‘We are celebrating AEW’s five-year anniversary here in Las Vegas for Double or Nothing.’ I said, ‘Bitch, I’ve been waiting for a whole year. Of course I can wait. I’m patient.’ So this is the perfect place, the grandest place that I can make my in-ring debut. As you can see, Mone changes everything.”
