Meow Wolf Los Angeles to take flight at Howard Hughes LA theater in 2026

May 13—Meow Wolf announced the sixth permanent location will be in Los Angeles.

On Monday, the Santa Fe-based arts and entertainment company announced that Meow Wolf Los Angeles will be in the Cinemark complex at HHLA (Howard Hughes LA) at 6081 Center Drive in West Los Angeles.

"We're crafting our next surreal dream world in a movie theater in West Los Angeles, a nod to the cinematic soul of the city," said Amanda Clay, Meow Wolf chief development officer. "HHLA, nestled close to LAX, and just off the 405, is positioned at the convergence of abundant culture and opportunity. Meow Wolf Los Angeles will draw inspiration from its surroundings and translate them into something otherworldly, never-before-seen, and yet familiar to Angelenos."

According to Cannon TTM, the real estate investment firm that owns and operates HHLA, Meow Wolf will move into the current Cinemark space after extensive renovations and is scheduled to open in early 2026.

"We're excited that one of the world's most innovative and immersive entertainment experiences is coming to HHLA," said Tyler Mateen, founder and CEO of Cannon TTM. "Meow Wolf is a cultural institution that will further solidify HHLA as a go-to destination in West Los Angeles."

Meow Wolf was founded in 2008 as an artists collective, who repurposed junk into staggering immersive art spaces.

With the support of "Game of Thrones" creator and Santa Fe resident, George R. R. Martin, Meow Wolf opened their wildly successful first permanent installation, "House of Eternal Return," in Santa Fe.

Since then, they have unveiled permanent exhibitions to widespread public acclaim in Las Vegas, Nevada, Denver, and Grapevine, Texas with exhibitions set to open in Houston and Los Angeles.

HHLA was developed in 2001 and was purchased in 2015 for $111 million by Laurus Corporation with Torchlight Investors, LLC as a preferred equity partner.

HHLA subsequently underwent a $35-million renovation, which included an exterior facelift, new landscaping, and outdoor areas with a fire pit and casual lounge space, along with an improved pedestrian-friendly layout.

"Cannon TTM excels at reimagining the future of undervalued properties," added Mateen. "We acquired HHLA because we believed, with a new vision, it could once again become a cultural destination."

In March 2023, HHLA was acquired by Cannon TTM and rebranded from The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center.

According to Meow Wolf, further revelations about the L.A. exhibition's unveiling, theme, and more will be announced in the coming months.

The expansion announcement comes after the company laid off 159 employees on April 17, which included 29 employees, both corporate and exhibition, in New Mexico.

In the cost-cutting plan, Meow Wolf also closed its New York office and scrapped plans for a Los Angeles corporate office.
