Memphis football adds Power Five school transfers Marcus Henderson, Joshua Ellison

Memphis football recently added a pair of football transfers, including a former area high school standout.

Former Arkansas sophomore offensive lineman Marcus Henderson committed to the Tigers after three seasons with the Razorbacks. The Tigers also added senior defensive lineman Joshua Ellison, who transferred from Oklahoma.

Henderson attended Memphis University School, where he was a four-star recruit. He did not play in any games this season due to injuries and appeared in seven combined games in 2020 and 2021.

Henderson is the third former Arkansas player to commit to Memphis since the regular season ended joining defensive back Malik Feaster and punter Reid Bauer.

Ellison spent three seasons at Oklahoma after transferring from Blinn College in 2020. In 2022, he had 10 tackles and appeared in 12 games. In his career with the Sooners, Ellison played in 36 total games, with six starts and has 42 tackles, including 5 1/2 for loss.

Ellison has one season of eligibility left. Henderson has two.

Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield emphasized that added depth on both offensive and defensive line was a priority. The Tigers signed 10 linemen in December and now have commitments from five additional linemen on both sides of the ball.

Since the end of the early signing period, Memphis has commitments from 12 total transfers, including eight from Power Five schools. The Tigers also signed defensive lineman Adarious Jones from Texas A&M.
