Director Ed Zwick’s latest memoir sheds a lot of light on working in the world of Hollywood, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the “volatile” moments with actors. In his new memoir entitled Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood, he made quite a few claims, one of which included alleging that Brad Pitt was extremely “volatile” on the set of the 1994 film Legends of the Fall.

“Brad seems easygoing at first, but he can be volatile when riled, as I was to be reminded more than once as shooting began and we took each other’s measure,” he wrote, per Vanity Fair. “It fell to [producer] Marshall [Herskovitz] to talk Brad off the ledge. It was the first augury of the deeper springs of emotion roiling inside Brad.”

He also discussed an alleged incident where he and Pitt would yell at each other on set, and it led to a chair being thrown on set.

“I don’t know who yelled first, who swore, or who threw the first chair,” he added. “Me, maybe? But when we looked up, the crew had disappeared. And this wasn’t the last time it happened.”

But he did note that they would always make up. “It was nothing personal. Brad is a forthright, straightforward person, fun to be with and capable of great joy. He was never anything less than fully committed to doing his best,” he said. “I, on the other hand, am a movie director masquerading as a rational human being.”

Now, this volatile reaction has many drawing parallels to the allegations Pitt’s ex-wife Angelina Jolie made about him. Back in 2016, she alleged that on a private flight from Nice, France, to the United States, “he choked one of the children and struck another in the face” and “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.” She also alleged that he poured wine on them all, and in another incident, she told FBI authorities that he “grabbed her by her head” and “pushed her into the bathroom wall.”

Along with giving photos to prove the injuries and having their eldest son Maddox testify against him, allegedly, per USMagazine.

Despite this, the FBI stated they didn’t find wrongdoing on Pitt’s behalf, per Vox.
