The early 2024 concert calendar is filling out in Columbia, and The Blue Note recently announced a show that will bring some of rock radio's heavy hitters to town.

Saint Asonia will play the Ninth Street venue May 4; the band, formed in 2015, exists as a sort of supergroup for a certain era and timbre of heavier yet accessible music. Frontman Adam Gontier was the founding singer for Three Days Grace, while guitarist Mike Mushok continues to shape mainstay band Staind.

Bassist Cale Gontier and drummer Cody Watkins round out the current lineup.

Saint Asonia's self-titled debut dropped in 2015, with a sophomore record, "Flawed Design," to follow four years later. The band's most streamed songs on Spotify include "Let Me Live My Life" (over 25 million streams) and "The Hunted" (more than 20 million streams).

Writing about the band's first record, AllMusic's James Christopher Monger said its appeal would depend on listeners' bent toward the "workmanlike and suitably hook-laden ... post-grunge" at its core.

Other promising 2024 shows already announced by The Blue Note include:

  • Jan. 19: Joseph, Sister

  • Jan. 23: The Mountain Goats, Craig Finn, Bully

  • March 19: The Brook and The Bluff

Tickets for the May date went on sale this week, and run $25-$45. Visit https://thebluenote.com/ for more details.
