A Member of Kate Middleton's Family Very Publicly Dissed Meghan Markle for Causing 'So Much Drama'

Kate Middleton has been keeping quiet about her relationship with Meghan Markle ever since Prince Harry and Markle exited the royal family amid an ongoing feud but one member of her extended family is following the Duchess of Cambridge’s vow of silence.

Middleton’s disgraced uncle, Gary Goldsmith, shared his unfiltered thoughts on Markle’s time in the royal family, and subsequent departure, during a Tuesday, March 5 episode of the U.K.’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Goldsmith, 58, entered the competition series earlier in the week, joining other stars including Sharon Osbourne and former X Factor judge Louis Walsh, and didn’t take long to start speaking about his niece.

Goldsmith, who is the younger brother of Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, praised Prince William and Kate, 42, as the “savior[s] of the royal family.” He stated that he thinks King Charles “has done a spectacular job” since assuming the throne but didn’t have such kind words for Harry and Meghan.

“I have the opinion that Harry was really, really, really loved, massively loved, and when they were a threesome — so Kate, William and Harry — they were really comfortable together, loved,” he claimed. “And then suddenly there’s an extra dynamic that comes in, puts a stick in the spokes and creates so much drama that I don’t generally think is there, and rewrote the history and said how unhappy he was, and I just don’t think that’s fair.”

Goldsmith continued, “And then you can’t throw your family under a bus in such a dramatic style and then write books about it and expect to be invited round for Christmas.”

Goldsmith’s involvement in the reality TV series has drawn criticism from a UK domestic violence prevention charity, Women’s Aid, due to a 2017 incident in which he pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife. “The decision to include a man who has been charged, and pleaded guilty to, assaulting his wife, in the Celebrity Big Brother house demonstrates the lack of awareness that the production team has when it comes to survivors of domestic abuse,” said a statement from the charity.

Goldsmith, whose relationship with Kate has been reported to be strained over the years, claimed his niece is doing well after her abdominal surgery.

“Because she doesn’t want to talk about it, the last thing I’m going to do is [talk about it],” he said. “There is a kind of code or etiquette. If it’s announced, I’ll give you an opinion.”

He insisted that Kate is getting “the best care” possible. “All the family has put the wagons down and [are looking] after the family first before anything else,” he added. “They said, ‘She’s going to take some time to recoup and we’ll see you at Easter.’”
