While many of the plot points, and cast members for that matter, remain shrouded in mystery, it was verified that the new reboot would involve the death of one of the original characters, prompting the return of Amanda Woodward (Locklear), Sydney Andrews (Zuniga, 61) and Jo Reynolds (Leighton, 55).

“When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the residents of ‘Melrose Place’ gather to honor the deceased,” the show’s logline reads.

“But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

There is currently no official date for the reboot, which is currently in development at CBS Studios and being pitched to networks and streaming services.

“Melrose Place” was initially a spinoff of “Beverly Hills, 90210” and aired for seven seasons.

This is not the first time the Darren Star-created soap opera has been revived.

In 2008, the CW announced that it was “exploring developing” a version of the show. It ran for only one season and killed off Leighton’s character.

Per Deadline, the potential new reboot would draw from the 1990s version of events and not the CW’s.

In 2022, the show suffered two massive blows when Morgan Stevens, who played Nick Diamond during the show’s original run, died at the age of 70. Fellow cast member Brad Johnson died from COVID-19 complications in June 2022. He was 62.

His rep, Linda McAlister, confirmed the news to the Hollywood Reporter at the time.

“Although he was taken too early, he lived life to the fullest and taught his children to do the same,” his family said in a statement.

“Brad greatly enjoyed improving and enhancing land, in a way that maintained and respected its natural beauty,” they went on. “He always felt most at home outdoors, and his passion for the land made that evident. As much as he loved cowboying, hunting and land, Brad loved nothing more than his family.”
