Melissa McCarthy Will Play Tinkerbell for the 'Night at the Museum' Director

Melissa McCarthy will make some more big screen magic — this time, literally — as Tinkerbell.

Deadline reports that he Emmy winning actress, most recently seen in St. Vincent and Tammy, will play the famous fairy in a “fresh take” on the Peter Pan character’s story for Fox. Though there are no other plot details available, it looks like it will be an A-list production, with Night at the Museum‘s Shawn Levy attached to direct and Neighbors director Nicholas Stoller writing the screenplay.

McCarthy’s Tinkerbell will be the latest fairy tale story to be given the live action treatment, and follows in the footsteps of Joe Wright’s upcoming Captain Hook origin story, Pan. Meanwhile, Disney’s Maleficent was a gigantic hit this fall, and its Cinderella hits theaters next May. Disney is also working on a new version of The Jungle Book (with Bill Murray voicing Baloo!), as is Warner Bros.
