"Barbra Streisand knows I exist!"

Melissa McCarthy has nothing but love for Barbra Streisand. Really.

Streisand issued an apology Tuesday after awkwardly commenting on a photo McCarthy posted on Instagram of herself with director Adam Shankman, that said, "Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?"

Oof. Babs was, of course, referring to the medication used to treat diabetes that some people have used for weight loss.

“OMG — I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album," Streisand later clarified on X (formerly Twitter). "She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!"

She needn't have worried, because McCarthy was not offended in the least. Late Tuesday, the Bridesmaids star responded with an Instagram video that showed her reading a magazine all about Streisand.

"The takeaway: Barbra Streisand knows I exist. She reached out to me, and she thought I looked good," McCarthy said, drawing out that last word. "I win the day."

Her words came hours after E! reported that McCarthy told paparazzi, "I think Barbra is a treasure, and I love her."

McCarthy has spoken candidly about her weight before, often in response to comments made about it. She lost more than 50 pounds in 2015.

In April 2018, she told AARP that she was tired of people discussing the topic.

"I just find it dumb and boring. I really do. No one's asking a man, how do you keep your legs in shape? Which I've been asked," she said. "I think every time we categorize people — by weight, by race, by gender — we put them in boxes and it's not a good thing for the world."

McCarthy and Streisand have been friendly for years. They recorded a duet together, the Annie Get Your Gun song "Anything You Can Do," for Streisand’s album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, in 2016.
