While Bernard has been busy with work, he doesn’t realize his job, life and family are unraveling around him until it’s too late. As he’s sitting in his New York City apartment alone, trying to figure out how to fix his mistakes, Bernard comes across an antique jewelry box. As he’s dusting it off, he unintentionally releases Flora, a genie trapped for more than 2,000 years inside.

“I need to get my wife and kid to love me again and for us to be happy,” Essiedu can be heard saying to McCarthy in the trailer.

Though, as Bernard starts to question if Flora can actually help him, they ultimately discover that love and an unexpected friendship can unleash a special holiday magic all its own.

“Years from now, I want you to remember you’re the very best friend I’ve ever had,” McCarthy says in the footage.

Genie is directed by Love Life creator Sam Boyd and written by Richard Curtis, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter for Love Actually. The movie also stars Denée Benton, Jordyn Mcintosh, Marc Maron, Luis Guzmán, Alan Cumming, Tate Ellington and LaChanze.

The film is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, Riva Marker and Curtis. McCarthy, Caroline Jaczko, Nicole King, Stacy O’Neil, Alexandra Loewy and Sarah-Jane Robinson serve as executive producers.

Genie begins streaming on Peacock Nov. 22. Watch the trailer below.
