Melissa Carter Inks Overall Deal With Warner Horizon Television

Writer/producer Melissa Carter has signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Horizon Television. Under the pact, Carter will develop new scripted programming for cable and streaming services at the studio, a division of Warner Bros. TV.

The overall deal extends Carter’s long-standing relationship with WHTV. She most recently served as an executive producer on WHTV’s upcoming Freeform drama series Famous in Love, from Pretty Little Liars‘ I. Marlene King, which is based on the novel by Rebecca Serle.

Before that, Carter served as executive producer/co-showrunner alongside creator Ava DuVernay on the first season of OWN’s breakout WHTV drama Queen Sugar, exec produced by Oprah Winfrey.

Carter won a WGA Award in 2015 for writing the TV movie/backdoor pilot Deliverance Creek, also produced by WHTV, which aired simultaneously on Lifetime, A&E and History.

Carter’s TV series credits also include Mistresses for ABC, Jane by Design and WHTV’s The Lying Game for ABC Family, and WHTV’s The Lottery for Lifetime. Carter began her career as the co-writer of the feature film Little Black Book, which starred Holly Hunter and the late Brittany Murphy. She is repped by ICM Partners.
