Melinda French Gates is not engaged despite being spotted wearing a diamond ring on that finger.

“Melinda is not engaged and is no longer dating Jon Du Pre,” a spokesperson for the philanthropist tells PEOPLE.

It was first reported that French Gates, 59, and Du Pre, a former Fox News correspondent, were dating in November 2022. At the time, they had reportedly been seeing each other for a few months and even attended a basketball game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics earlier in the year.

The engagement denial came after she was pictured wearing a huge diamond ring on her engagement finger over the weekend.

In the photos, French Gates was seen exiting a helicopter after arriving in New York City while wearing a cream cardigan and carrying a pink Chanel handbag.

French Gates’s relationship with Du Pre followed her divorce from Bill Gates after 27 years of marriage. The pair’s divorce was finalized in August 2021, three months after they announced their separation.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives," they wrote in a joint statement on social media, referring to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which they founded in 2000.

"We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life," they concluded in the statement.

The Microsoft co-founder, 68, has since moved on with Paula Hurd, who is the widow of Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. Hurd, who was also previously the boss of Hewlett-Packard, died in 2019.

Gates and Hurd’s relationship was confirmed in February 2023, though they had been spotted together at several sporting events in the months prior, including the Laver Cup in September 2022 and the Australian Open in January 2023. The duo were photographed sitting side-by-side as they watched the Men's Singles Final at the latter tournament.

They were most recently seen together while they attended the three-day pre-wedding celebration for billionaire heir Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in March.
