Melanie Lynskey Reveals New 'Adorable' Tattoo of Her Daughter's Drawing

The "Yellowjackets" star shares the design reminds her that there is "true joy" in her life even "in the most challenging moments"

Melanie Lynskey is ringing in the new year by sharing a tattoo inspired by her daughter.

The Yellowjackets star, 46, posted side-by-side photos of a drawing by her 5-year-old daughter, whom she shares with her husband Jason Ritter, and a tattoo of the same artwork created by Graeme Allan.

"I'm so happy to be bringing this adorable tattoo into 2024 with me," she captioned the Instagram post. "My thanks to the incredibly kind and talented @graeme.allan at @sacredtattoonz for doing this for me while I was in Aotearoa."

"It's a meticulous recreation of a drawing my 5-year-old daughter did, and it reminds me even in the most challenging moments that there is true joy in my life and fills me with deep gratitude," she continued. "I wish so much joy for all of you this year! And my big wish is that the world remembers about empathy. ❤️"

In March, the New Zealand native opened up to PEOPLE on the red carpet of Yellowjackets' season 2 premiere in Los Angeles about the bond she shares with her daughter.

"I feel so fortunate to have my daughter, and I love her. It's like the joy of my life," Lynskey shared at the time. "Every day, I'm like, 'Thank you, thank you, thank you for this child.' I want to spend every minute with her."

The same month, Ritter, 43, revealed on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show whether he could see the couple’s daughter following in her parents' footsteps.

"She is watching her parents, and she's already showing signs," the Parenthood star said of their child, who was born in December 2018.

However, he added, "I think you want to help your child be as fully who they are as they want to be. And you know, as we all know, the more you try to like control someone's life, the more they rebel."
