Donald Trump had a successful night on Super Tuesday as he moved one step closer to the Republican Party nomination for president while Nikki Haley dropped out of the race. The former president celebrated his win at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, but his wife, Melania Trump, was nowhere to be seen.

Understandably, she is likely mourning the death of her mother, Amalija Knavs, who passed away in January at the age of 78, but it was still surprising not to see the former first lady by Donald Trump’s side on such a big night. Of course, everyone on social media has an opinion about this and it’s come pretty close to reaching Kate Middleton conspiracy levels.

“I don’t blame her,” wrote one account on X. Another user added, “Her contract probably doesn’t kick in till he wins the nomination.” And then the royal family reference enters the fray, with someone pointing out the alleged similarities between Melania and Kate, “Melania is chillin with Kate Middleton somewhere…both tOtALly FinE.”

But Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Melania’s former close pal and author of Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady, entered the chat with an assessment that people should keep in mind as the presidential election unfolds. “‼️WARNING Melania Trump was NOT at Donald’s victory party because she did NOT have to be,” she wrote on X. “His supporters do NOT care if she is by his side or NOT, so now she does NOT have to be. NOThing more, NOThing less.” Wolkoff believes that a majority of his supporters for his third presidential run like Donald Trump for Donald Trump — they don’t need the rest of the Trump family, and that includes Melania.

Yet Donald Trump knows that having Melania by his side is good optics. As someone who is constantly in tune with what is being said about him, he understands that Americans are wondering where the heck Melania is these days. The former president is feeling the PR pressure because he told a Fox News town hall last month that voters would see her very soon. “It’s funny, she was a very successful model, very, very successful, and yet she was a private person. She’s going to be out a lot. Not because she likes doing it, but she likes the results,” Donald Trump explained. “She wants to see this country really succeed. She loves the country.” Melania hasn’t delivered on her husband’s promise even though a Super Tuesday party was held at her own house.
