Former first lady Melania Trump's absence from her family's festive photo has finally been explained.

The mother of one was nowhere to be found in a picture taken from the family outing at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. Reports now claim that she chose to spend the time visiting her ailing mother.

Melania spent the Christmas celebration with her mother, Amalija Knavs, instead of the Trump family at Mar-a-Lago.

Knavs is currently suffering from an undisclosed ailment, which is why Melania opted to spend the festive period with her as a show of support.

"Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family," a source close to the former first lady told Fox News Digital. "It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother."

Melania's decision led to her absence from a Trump family Christmas celebration at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier in the week.

A picture of the family enjoying the day at the luxury resort club also made its way to social media, which initially raised questions about her whereabouts.

In attendance at the family outing was Kimberly Guilfoyle, the fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., former President Donald Trump himself; Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner and their kids; Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos; and Barron Trump, Melania's son.

Upon her return from visiting her mother, Melania is expected to continue with preparations to take on more "diplomatic appearances" for her husband's re-election campaign.

Such a decision would see her attend MAGA rallies, Super PAC dinners, and other campaign events ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

"Trump and his family are so secure that he will become president again that insiders at Mar-a-Lago say he's reached an agreement with [wife] Melania [Trump] to step up top-tier diplomatic appearances in 2024," an insider told Page Six.

The source also shared that the former first lady believes she is better prepared to support Donald's re-election goal with hopes that it will help her leave her name in the sands of time.

The insider continued, "Melania realizes it's her time to join the ranks of historic first ladies and leave her mark on history… She feels better prepared for her potential role the second time around."

Speculations about Melania's plan to take up a more public role in Donald's re-election campaign come on the heels of reports that she is his "secret weapon."

Friends recently credited her with keeping the billionaire mogul "calm and focused" amid his legal troubles and providing him with a "peaceful life when he needs it."

An insider shared, "Melania keeps him on track as a father and has in many ways stepped up to fill the place Ivanka [Trump] and Jared [Kushner] once had. . . She is his most intimate and internal sounding board."

As per the source, Melania not only wholeheartedly supports Donald's pursuit of a second term but also serves as his confidant when he needs someone he can trust.

The source added about the mother of one: "She is obsessively private; she never gossips with even her closest friends, so Trump knows when they talk about important things, it's just between them."

Earlier in the year, Melania spoke about her plans for the country if her husband ends up being reelected in 2024.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, she shared that she would continue to "prioritize the well-being and development of children as I have always done."

"My focus would continue to be creating a safe and nurturing space for children to learn, grow, and thrive," the former fashion model revealed. "If additional problems arise, I will take the time to study them and understand their root causes."

She added, "My goal would be to ensure that every child has the support and resources they need to reach their full potential."

Still being implemented is Melania's "Be Best" initiative, launched during her time in the White House. The program, which marked its fifth anniversary in May, focuses on the well-being of America's children, opioid abuse, and online safety. The former first lady also has a  program called "Fostering the Future," granting scholarships to students from the foster care system.
