Melania Trump has remained a bit of an enigma, especially after she and Donald Trump left the White House. Many have used an array of words to describe the former First Lady, but her former aide and friend revealed to the Washington Post that Melania may not exactly be as “go with the flow” with her image as people thought.

On Nov 10, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff talked about how Melania’s “armor” as First Lady was her silence, and how she allegedly wanted to be known a certain way. To do this, she had an “ongoing pre-approved list” of words to describe her.

This alleged list has words such as “confident,” “strong,” and “independent” on it, something she allegedly strives to be seen as.

Wolkoff said that Melania’s “intentional lack of communication” with the media helps her maintain the “narrative of being mysterious and an enigma.” She added, “It was a way to protect her by not letting anyone fully know who she is.”

So while she tries to be seen as those adjectives, it seems the biggest adjective people have used to describe her has definitely been “mysterious.”

Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the former art director of the Met Gala and longtime Vogue staffer, was once friendly with Melania Trump in the way she figured a handful of other Upper East Side moms must be too. But what grew into a close friendship and Wolkoff’s agreement to plan Donald’s inauguration event turned into what Wolkoff calls a shocking betrayal during her time as Melania’s advisor. The full account is a remarkably clear picture of who Melania is and what role she plays in the White House in Melania and Me.
