Megyn Kelly Investigated Netflix's 'Making A Murderer'

On Tuesday night’s The Kelly File on Fox News, we got an officially-billed “Kelly File Investigation” into Netflix’s Making a Murderer, featuring some of the facts not featured in the 10-part documentary. The segment was Kelly’s way of bringing the Fox news audience up-to-speed on the Steven Avery murder conviction, and an attempt to move the story ahead a little by addressing what she called the controversy over “whether the filmmakers got it right.”

Kelly had prosecutor Ken Kratz and defense attorney Dean Strang on for interviews. Kelly, who’s the subject of a cover story in the new Vanity Fair, flexed her legal-trained muscles on both men. Their segment begins 23 minutes into the clip below:

The men were interviewed separately, with Kratz up first. He’s been making the rounds, giving interviews to places such as People magazine, insisting that Making a Murderer left out key evidence incriminating Avery in the murder of Teresa Halbach. His most salient point: there was so-called “sweat DNA” belonging to Avery (as opposed to “blood DNA”) on the latch of the hood on Halbach’s car.

When it was Strang’s turn on The Kelly File, he said that “There was no evidence of sweat; there was evidence of DNA transferred… The sweat idea was just Mr. Kratz’s theory and never has been anything more than that. The DNA from Steven Avery could have been transferred under that hood any number of ways.”

At the end of her show, Kelly invited viewers to go to her show’s Facebook page to share their thoughts on her investigation. The comments were wide-ranging, with nearly as many expressing support for Avery’s conviction as for his innocence. And then there were the usual internet commenters with their own unique take on the news. One such viewer, referring to the petitions for Avery’s verdict to be overturned, said, “If there exists over 250,000 sheeple who believe this guy is innocent from watching a Netflix show then we are in big trouble at voting time!” And this: “I think that both attorneys are cobras out of their baskets. I put them both right next to Hillary for honesty.”

The Kelly File airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News.
