Cactus-loving political commentator Meghan McCain has revealed that she got into a particularly prickly situation with ousted Fox News personality Tucker Carlson following the death of her father, Senator John McCain, in 2018.

The 39-year-old recalled on Thursday's episode of her Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat podcast that she engaged in a heated argument with Carlson after she claimed he lashed out at her for criticizing Roger Stone. This was after the conservative political consultant tweeted in 2017 that her dad would "burn in hell for all eternity." The senator and former presidential hopeful died of brain cancer the following year.

"I remember, of all the things people said, that resonated with me because my dad saw it," McCain said, adding that she's since deleted her follow-up response to Stone. "I tweeted something like, 'Burn in hell' or 'Go to hell, Roger Stone,' and I felt good about it, and I stand by that tweet."

Shortly thereafter, McCain said she'd had two glasses of champagne at a party in London when she received a text from Carlson, which she paraphrased because she deleted it after responding.

"[He said], 'What you said about Roger Stone is so gross and so disgusting, he's a good man,' or something like that. I lit into his ass," McCain said. "How can you say that after the things he said about my dad? I sent the text, blocked Tucker Carlson, deleted it, and went back to drinking, and that was my last interaction with him. I remember being like, who would say that to someone who just lost their dad to cancer?"

A representative for Carlson did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

McCain and Carlson were both once prominent conservative political commentators, with McCain joining The View from 2017-2021, and Carlson fronting his own show on Fox News before he exited the network in April less than one week after Fox News settled a $787.5 million defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems. Before that, he'd long been criticized for his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as his questioning of the 2020 presidential election results.
