Meghan McCain took a vacation back to her home state of Arizona over the weekend, and she took in some of the area's beautiful scenery while there. It was her first trip back since her father, Senator John McCain, died in August 2018.
McCain shared two photos of Arizona to her Twitter feed on Sunday, one said "That Arizona sky," and the other had a cactus and American flag emojis.
Followers were quick to comment on the beautiful scenes. "There’s really no other sky like it. When blue it goes on forever. I always feel closer to God when in Sedona. I hope you find comfort & healing in the blue this weekend," one said.
"You picked an absolutely beautiful weekend to come home! Enjoy your visit!" another said.
McCain opened up to PEOPLE Magazine last week about making her first trip home since her father's death.
“I’m really looking forward to having some much needed family time,” she says.
“She knows how difficult the visit will be,” a source close to her explains. “But everyone is aware of her deep connection” to the state.
“After a crazy and emotionally taxing week,” says the source, “Meghan feels the need to get out of the media bubble and remind herself of the people she represents on TV every day.”
On her schedule? Fishing and relaxing.
She's been very open on social media about struggling with the mourning process.
“I continue to believe the more open, honest and transparent conversations we have about the albatross that is grief and our cultures reticence to address it, the better off we all will be,” she wrote on Instagram in October. “Dealing with my own grief I have been shocked at the lack of resources and conversation we readily have as Americans.”
In December of 2018, just four months after John McCain's death, she wrote on Instagram: “You’re omnipresent in my life, heart and mind … and it still doesn’t feel real you aren’t here. I try and remind myself that the intensity of the pain of missing you is important because it is a reminder of how my love for you was so incredibly strong.”
