  • Meghan McCain is doubling down on her refusal to take Ozempic.

  • The mom of two is under pressure to do so after appearing in a few televised interviews as of late—but the criticism began after she gave birth early last year.

  • “It’s why I don’t like being on camera as much anymore,” she said.

While celebrities continuously come forward about their use of weight loss medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and more, Meghan McCain refuses to bend under pressure to join them. In a new episode of her podcast, Citizen McCain, she defended her choice not to use Ozempic despite online body shamers insisting she lose weight.

The latest batch of criticism came after the mom of two did a series of televised interviews in New York City. “It’s why I don’t like being on camera as much anymore because, like, the vast majority of the comments were about how fat I am, that I look like Brendan Fraser in The Whale, that I bet the only way they could get me to come on Watch What Happens Live was by offering me food,” she said. “I don’t want to starve myself. And people have a real problem with that.”

McCain shared that social media bullies have pressured her to take Ozempic since she had her daughter Clover in February 2023. “I can’t tell you how often people bring it up to me,” she said. “How often people message it to me...I do not want to go on a medication that, A, I don’t feel like I need, and I don’t because I’m healthy. I’ve had a physical in January this year.”

She continued: “And, B, like, I just don’t want to put a test drug in my body to fit someone else’s standards, and I can’t believe the amount of pressure I still feel.”

Shortly after having Clover, McCain wrote an op-ed for The Daily Mail that expressed her disgust for the commentary on her postpartum body. “Let me make one thing very clear. I’m not taking [Ozempic]. I refuse,” she wrote. “I would rather have a few extra pounds than shoot myself up with medicine. There ain’t nothing worth having that is easy to get.”

On the podcast, McCain closed by referencing her father John McCain’s experience with brain cancer, which ultimately led to his death in 2018. “I’ve seen firsthand what it looks like when your body deteriorates in front of you,” she said. “I am happy to be here. I’m happy to be alive, and I have a husband who thinks I’m hot still.”
