Meghan McCain is openly discussing the pressure to lose weight.

In the latest episode of her podcast Citizen McCain, released on May 17, the 39-year-old daughter of the late Sen. John McCain shared insights from her recent trip to New York City, where she did various on-camera press interviews.

Reflecting on the interviews during her train journey home, McCain decided to browse social media and read some of the comments.

"It's why I don't like being on camera as much anymore because, like, the vast majority of the comments were about how fat I am, that I look like Brendan Fraser in The Whale, that I bet the only way they could get me to come on Watch What Happens Live was by offering me food," she said.

McCain further expressed in the episode empathy for high-profile individuals like Kelly Clarkson who openly discuss using Ozempic or other methods to lose weight.

"It must just be very painful to feel that all day every day of your career," McCain added. "And, I don't like being on camera anymore because I don't want to starve myself. And people have a real problem with that."

"Anything you put in front of me, and none of it apparently fucking matters unless you lose weight. And I don't wanna lose weight, and I don't wanna go on Ozempic, and I don't wanna get a breast lift, and I don't wanna get liposuction. I'm scared of surgery," she continued, adding how going on the drug will be the last thing she does.

The TV personality, who was urged to take Ozempic four weeks after giving birth in February 2023, also highlighted the frequency with which people bring up her weight and how often she receives messages about it.

"I can't tell you how often people bring it up to me," she continued. "How often people message it to me... I do not want to go on a medication that, A, I don't feel like I need, and I don't because I'm healthy. I've had a physical in January this year."

"And, B, like, I just don't want to put a test drug in my body to fit someone else's standards, and I can't believe the amount of pressure I still feel," she shared.

Later in the podcast, McCain expressed her gratitude for being alive and healthy, reflecting on the difficulty of witnessing her father's battle with brain cancer.

"I've seen firsthand what it looks like when your body deteriorates in front of you," she said. "I am happy to be here. I'm happy to be alive, and I have a husband who thinks I'm hot still."
