How Meghan McCain helped Taylor Swift brighten a brain cancer survivor's day
Taylor Swift has struck again, this time with an assist from Meghan McCain.
The charity-prone celeb met with one of her fans, 21-year-old brain cancer survivor Lexi Caviston, ahead of her Philadelphia concert on Friday.
Swift has been known to surprise fans over the years. Remember when she invited people over to her house to listen to 1989 and serve them homemade cookies? Two months ago, she visited a young girl recovering from burns, then staged a private rehearsal performance for a group of foster kids, all in one day.
The “Gorgeous” singer found out about Scranton, Penn., resident Caviston’s situation after McCain saw a single tweet. A Caviston friend, Alexandra Ditchkus, had surprised her with Swift tickets and hoped to somehow get her backstage. McCain, whose father, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has a glioblastoma, the same type as Caviston, wanted to help. She reached out to the star.

Caviston, who’s been a Swiftie since she saw the singer open at a Rascal Flatts show when she a fifth-grader, was ecstatic. She teared up when she heard the news that she would actually be meeting Swift, via a recorded phone call with McCain shown on Monday’s edition of The View.

McCain sent a limo to take Caviston to the big event, which must have been no big deal compared with actually meeting Swift. It definitely lived up to the hype.
“She complimented me on my earrings and hugged me five times,” Caviston told the local Scranton Times-Tribune. “I counted.”
After meeting Swift, Caviston agreed to keep the story to herself until McCain could reveal it on her show.
“Waiting to tell was the hardest thing I’ve done,” Caviston told the newspaper. “And I had brain surgery.”
As the noted feline owner herself might say, the cat’s out of the bag now.
