Meghan McCain to fellow 'View' hosts: Liberals should move on from Mueller report

Monday's "Hot Topics" segment on "The View" began with a debate over whether Mitt Romney and other Congressional Republicans who have spoken out against President Trump in the past would vote to impeach or convict him. It ended with Meghan McCain telling her co-hosts that if liberals don't move on from the Mueller report, they'll be the reason Trump gets re-elected.

"If he's the worst president in history, if there's so much in this report that's damning, what's the problem? Why is everyone so nervous about 2020?" the conservative commentator asked her liberal counterparts.

"We're afraid the Russians will steal the election again," Behar argued.

"To me, that sounds irrational," McCain countered. The rational answer in her view? "Unfortunately for Democrats, you gotta get out there and win over the voters you lost in the middle of the country."

She continued, "I always took Trump, seriously, when I worked at Fox (News) and my radio show. Check the receipts. This mess that we all got ourselves into? I blame the left as much as I blame the right and the demonizing of all conservatives and Trump supporters in this country. You're getting him re-elected."

McCain added, "There are some decisions Trump made that aren't the end of the world – that Republicans support, including the Supreme Court (nominations)."

She said that she's accepted the Mueller report's conclusion that Trump did not actively collude with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election – and reminded her co-hosts that's not exactly an easy concession for her to make.

After all, McCain is no fan of Trump, who, as a candidate taunted her father for being captured by the North Vietnamese, and as president has repeatedly publicly criticized her father half a year after his death. Trump has even said that her family never thanked him for approving the funds to pay for the senator's state funeral.

After the Trump tweeted about her father in March, she told her co-hosts, "He spends his weekend obsessing over great men because – he knows it, and I know it, and all of you know it – he will never be a great man."

Whoopi Goldberg, who serves as a referee when conversations on the show get testy, signaled the control room to cut to commercial as McCain continued lambasting her colleagues for demonizing Republicans.
