Meghan McCain defends Harvey Weinstein's designer ex-wife Georgina Chapman: 'Don't blame Marchesa for men's sins'
Meghan McCain is standing up in support of Marchesa, the luxury women’s fashion line co-founded by Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife, Georgina Chapman. The View co-host and daughter of the late Sen. John McCain tweeted her support for the brand on Saturday, sharing how Chapman’s co-founder Keren Craig came to her rescue and made her wedding dress with very little preparation back in 2017.
McCain posted a story from The Daily Beast about how Chapman is not expected to appear with Weinstein at his trial, which begins on Monday, because she is working to rebuild her brand. Chapman received an intense backlash after the Weinstein scandal broke, with several reports claiming that her estranged husband was deeply intertwined with the brand, bolstering its name with his connections and forcing actresses to wear Marchesa on the red carpet.
“Don’t blame Marchesa for men’s sins,” McCain tweeted in response to the scrutiny facing the label.

McCain previously shared her loyalty for the brand, especially when people expected her to get rid of her beloved wedding dress, which was a light pink beaded and lace gown with a vintage look.
“The scandal erupted and everybody was like, are you going to keep the dress? And I was like why should the two women designers be punished for a man’s disgusting behavior,” McCain told People. “I just didn’t wanna feel like the people who had worked there and make their livelihood should be punished as well.”
McCain isn’t the only star to stand out in support of Marchesa, with everyone from Vanessa Hudgens and Priyanka Chopra speaking out in support of Chapman and the brand. Alyssa Milano, who appears on Project Runway All-Stars with Chapman, said on Today that while the turmoil isn’t easy for Chapman, she is an “amazing woman.”
“This is not easy for her, but I have no doubt that not only will she come out on the other side of this, but she deserves to. She’s a good woman,” said Milano.
In May 2018, Scarlett Johansson wore a burgundy Marchesa gown to the Met Gala, and was vocal about her support of the brand.
“I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful, and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers," Johansson said in a statement at the time.
Marchesa co-founder Keren Craig departed the line last year, but Chapman has made a very calculated return to the spotlight. She has since shown at New York Fashion Week and continues to make several red carpet appearances of her own.
