McCain slammed the Hawkeye State’s handling of the 2020 Democratic caucus on Tuesday’s episode of The View after the process was marred by delayed results due to an issue with an app used to tabulate votes.
“This is a disaster,” said McCain. “Iowa should completely remove themselves from the caucus in general and turn into a primary next election cycle because they clearly can’t handle the responsibility and gravity of this.”
The View co-host also said that the debacle ultimately hurt all those who invested time and money into the candidates involved.
“All the staffers and politicians who have gone to Iowa and spent millions of dollars, left their families, campaigned, and gone to this state because they believe in the ‘first-in-the-nation caucus’ status and to have this happen? It’s a load of garbage, and I’m done with it. I’m completely done with it,” said McCain.
Viewers on Twitter were split, but many said they agreed with McCain and shared her frustrations:
Wow! I agree with @MeghanMcCain. The Iowa caucus is way too overrated.— Carolyn Benson (@Carolyn96056524) February 4, 2020
The idea of a Caucus is outdated, and I seriously question their results, even when they come in.— C.E. (@chare4548) February 4, 2020
Why does 1State, get to be the launching point of our elections?
They can make or break candidates, and they KNOW IT!

Others said Iowa’s place in the process is still important, and some noted that mistakes sometimes happen but it’s not a big deal:
