Meghan Markle's “Suits” Costar Patrick J. Adams Deletes Her Photos from Instagram — Why He's 'Incredibly Sorry'

The Duchess of Sussex's longtime costar removed behind-the-scenes snaps that he described as a "trip down Suits memory lane"

Meghan Markle's Suits costar Patrick J. Adams is cleaning up his social media feed amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

On Wednesday, the 42-year-old actor apologized for uploading throwback photos from the Suits set, including previously unseen images of the Duchess of Sussex, on his Instagram page this week. Adams deleted the four posts, which included shots of Meghan kicking back on set and smiling under an umbrella, and said followers reminded him this wasn’t allowed as the union pushes for a better contract.

"The last couple of days I foolishly and thoughtlessly let a trip down Suits memory lane distract me from the very real and ongoing fight everyone in @sagaftra continues to wage in its effort to win our membership realistic 21st century compensation and protections,” Adams began a statement shared to his Instagram Story on Tuesday.

“It was an embarrassing oversight for which I'm incredibly sorry,” he continued. “So grateful to those who gently and swiftly course-corrected me here and I look forward to continuing the fight in the days and weeks ahead. #sagaftrastrong”

According to a FAQ page for SAG-AFTRA about the strike, members “cannot promote struck work or struck companies on social media" while influencers "should refrain from posting on social media about any struck work regardless of whether they are posting organically or in a paid capacity."

Formed in the 1930s, SAG-AFTRA “brings together two great American labor unions: Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists,” according to the official SAG-AFTRA website. The website adds that the SAG-AFTRA represents “approximately 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals.”

Actors are seeking better compensation and benefit plans, as the rise of streaming services (where Suits is having a resurgence) and complications resulting from the streaming model have contributed to a decline in wages and residuals. They also are looking for protections against the impact of AI on their work.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike ended after 148 days on Wednesday. The labor union, which represents more than 1,000 entertainment writers in film, television, news and online media, voted to end the writers’ strike on the morning of Sept. 27, effective 12:01 a.m. PT. Several shows have already started to announce their long-awaited return to TV.

Before she married Prince Harry, Meghan acted alongside Adams in Suits, which aired on USA Network from 2011 to 2019. Meghan starred as plucky paralegal Rachel Zane, while Adams played unlicensed lawyer (and Rachel’s love interest) Mike Ross. Though the Duchess of Sussex, 42, and Adams both stepped away from the show after season 7, which premiered in 2017, Suits concluded with a ninth and final season two years later.

The legal drama has had a record resurgence since hitting Netflix for the first time in June and continues to soar on the streaming charts. Citing the latest Nielsen data, Variety reported last week that Suits was the most-streamed show from Aug. 21 to 27 with over 2.6 billion minutes viewed between Netflix and Peacock.

Adams shared four Instagram posts between Tuesday and Wednesday featuring throwback photos from shooting Suits.

“I miss my friends,” Adams captioned the kickoff post on Tuesday, which showed Meghan and costar Sarah Rafferty in costume in an office on set, where Rafferty sat on a couch and Meghan laid on the floor, her feet up on a cabinet.

“Each and every one of them,” he captioned the second montage. The photo reel opened with a black and white snap of Meghan holding a finger to her lips and looking to the side, followed by shots of Suits stars Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, Max Topplin and Gina Torres.
