Meghan Markle wore a sweet nod to her late mother-in-law during her trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry.

As confirmed by People, the 42-year-old's cross necklace, which she wore during a reception for military families on May 11, once belonged to Princess Diana, and was recently gifted to the Suits star by her husband.

The sentimental piece of jewelry is made up of a cross of diamonds hung from a gold chain, but it's far from the first time the Duchess of Sussex has honored the former Princess of Wales in such a way.

At the couple's wedding, Markle wore a ring once belonging to Diana and included her favorite flowers—forget-me-nots—in her bridal bouquet. She's also worn a gold bracelet belonging to the princess on multiple occasions, as well as a pair of butterfly earrings from her collection. Her engagement ring also includes a pair of diamonds from Diana's collection, chosen by Harry before proposing with the custom ring.

Fans recently expressed certainty that Diana "would totally love Meghan," convinced that she's "looking down at them smiling now [and] would [have] been so proud."

During their trip to Nigeria, the couple was caught on camera dancing with a class of kindergartners at a school that their nonprofit Archewell Foundation supports. The duchess also broke royal protocol during the visit when she donned a strapless white dress for the military reception, something that goes against the typical royal dress code—though, as a non-working royal, she's not likely to be required to follow it.
