Meghan Markle sent Kelly Clarkson a special message through her friend Abigail Spencer.

On Monday, Spencer, 42, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show with her Extended Family costar Donald Faison, where she revealed that the Duchess of Sussex is a fan of the singer.

“Meg says hello and that she loves you and that she voted for you on American Idol," she told the host.

"It worked!” Clarkson joked, referring to her big break as the season one winner of the singing competition in 2002.

Spencer relayed that Meghan, 42, “was just having dinner with Michael Bublé, who said you are the greatest singer on earth,” and Clarkson self-deprecatingly shot down the compliment.

"This was unsolicited. She did not know I was coming on here. We were just chatting and I was like, 'Oh, I'm going to see Kelly next week,' and she's like, 'I have a message,' " Spencer said.

Spencer and Meghan starred together on Suits during its original run on USA Network starting in 2011. Meghan stepped back from the legal drama shortly after she and Prince Harry announced their engagement in November 2017. Spencer attended the couple’s royal wedding in London the following spring and was a guest at the Duchess of Sussex’s New York City baby shower when she was expecting Prince Archie, 4, in February 2019.

Meghan and Prince Harry, 39, later relocated to her home state of California after stepping back from their royal roles in 2020, and Spencer joined Meghan at Prince Harry’s polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in May 2022.

Spencer got talking about the Duchess of Sussex after Faison spoke about his longtime friendship with Zach Braff, after Clarkson asked if she had “someone like that in the industry.”

“It was 2007, I was doing a pilot for NBC, and I went to read with the people who were supposed to play my best friend. They were testing other actresses,” Spencer said. “I walk in, I see this beautiful gorgeous creature at the end of the table and I'm like, ‘Who is that?’ We had an immediate something, you know? And her name is Meghan Markle.”

The actress added that she and Meghan “immediately had a connection” and soon learned they shared the same birthday.

“It was just something between us,” Spencer said, fondly recalling how they crossed paths again when cast together on Suits. The future Duchess of Sussex played paralegal Rachel Zane, while Spencer appeared as Dana Scott, the rival and love interest of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht).

“Our friendship really developed during that time, and deepened. She’s an incredible person,” Spencer told Clarkson of Meghan.

While Suits wrapped after nine seasons in 2019, the show has smashed streaming records after hitting Netflix for the first time in June 2023, likely reaching a new audience intrigued by Meghan’s acting background. The Duchess of Sussex described Suits’ streaming success as “wild” at Variety's Power of Women event in Los Angeles in November 2023, and PEOPLE confirmed in early February that NBCUniversal has ordered a pilot for a spinoff, Suits L.A.

The project, helmed by Suits creator Aaron Korsh, will feature a brand new cast, though it remains unknown if the actors from the original series will make an appearance. Fans likely' won't catch Meghan back in character in front of the camera, however. In her joint engagement interview with Prince Harry in November 2017, she said she would no longer be acting.

"I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said at the time. “It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

She iterated that she had no plans of acting again during a 2022 interview with Variety: "No. I'm done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."

However, the Duchess of Sussex hinted at producorial opportunities on the Variety carpet in November.

“We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can't wait until we can announce them," she said.
