It turns out that even if Queen Elizabeth II and her great-grandson Prince Archie didn’t see each other much — they still had one major thing in common. Meghan Markle recently revealed that her son is into photography, a hobby the late monarch also enjoyed.

While moderating a Q&A following a screening of Netflix’s The After, Markle said her son Prince Archie might be following in the footsteps of director Misan Harriman. Harriman is an accomplished photographer who is known for taking some of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s portraits.

“Our 4-year-old,” she said, before correcting herself, “4 ½ -year-old son — he would say, ‘No, I’m not 4. I’m 4 ½ — Misan was showing him how to do photography the last time he was with us, and I bought Archie a camera, and he said, ‘But it’s not a Leica like Misan.'”

“I said, ‘You are not getting a Leica! Not even for Christmas,'” Markle continued.

Because the handcrafted cameras come with hefty price tags.

Queen Elizabeth also had a love for photography and was lucky enough to have a Leica of her own. She was often seen taking photos at horse shows when her late husband, Prince Philip, was competing.

It’s sad to think that Prince Archie won’t be able to take pictures with his great-grandmother. And that she isn’t here to buy him a Leica. They can be upwards of $5 thousand, but if anyone is going to spoil a 4-year-old — excuse me, 4 ½-year-old — it’s their granny.

Prince Harry — who also shares Princess Lilibet, 2 with Meghan Markle — shared in an episode of The Late Late Show in 2021 that Queen Elizabeth actually got Archie a surprisingly down-to-earth Christmas present.

“My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker,” the Spare author told host James Corden. “She sent us a waffle maker for Archie. So breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix in the waffle maker.”

“Archie wakes up in the morning and goes, ‘Waffle.'”

Now we wonder if they would have bonded over waffles too! Would they have had brunch together? Was Queen Elizabeth a fan of the breakfast delicacy? Perhaps with a dollop of marmalade?
