Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's “Family Guy ”Spoof“ ”Sparks Cheeky Reply from Del Taco

The taco chain had something surprising to say after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were depicted on the sitcom

Family Guy’s cartoon cameo of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry inspired an unexpected response.

Two days after Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcom imagined the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having a poolside chat, Del Taco had something to say on X.

As seen in the show on Sunday, Meghan’s character told Harry, “Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco." The quip was an apparent rib at the business deals the couple has signed since relocating to the U.S. following their step back from their royal roles in 2020.

“Harry & Meghan we are still waiting for your post to go up today plz,” Del Taco posted, where a top comment was a laughing GIF of Queen Elizabeth.

The joke may be on the California-based chain, as Meghan and Harry do not currently maintain a public social media presence. While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Foundation shares updates on their philanthropic work on its website, the couple shuttered their @SussexRoyal Instagram page shortly after announcing their intentions to step back from their royal roles.

Although Meghan, 42, and Harry, 39, no longer use the page or the website SussexRoyal.com, “both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future,” a spokesperson for the couple previously said.

On Sunday, the Fox comedy featured caricatures of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lounging by the pool in bathing suits, perhaps a nod to the warm weather of their California base. The couple settled in Meghan’s home state in 2020 with son Prince Archie, 4, and went on to welcome daughter Princess Lilibet, 2, there in 2021.

As seen on screen in Family Guy, a butler approached the couple and said, "Sir, your millions from Netflix for...no one knows what."

"Put it with the rest of them,” Harry’s character replied.

A phone notification rang prompted Meghan to remind Harry of their sponsored Instagram post.

"I shouldn't have left the made-up nonsense," Harry’s parody said.

It wasn’t the first time that a snarky cartoon portrayed a plotline about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In February, South Park released an episode titled “Worldwide Privacy Tour” about a "prince of Canada" and his wife who settled in a fictional town in Colorado. The caricature’s similarities to the Sussexes were unmissable, from the prince's ginger hair and beard to the wife's pink outfit and hat, a lookalike to Meghan's Trooping the Colour look in 2018. The show followed the pair picketing "We want our privacy" and "Stop looking at us" signs around the world.

When reports surfaced that Harry and Meghan were going to take legal action against South Park, a spokesperson for the couple debunked the speculation and told PEOPLE, "It's all frankly nonsense. Totally baseless, boring reports."

Although they're not on Instagram yet, the Duchess of Sussex teased a return to social media in a wide-ranging interview with New York magazine's The Cut last year.

"Do you want to know a secret?" Meghan said in the fall fashion issue, which she covered. "I'm getting back…on Instagram."

Although Meghan "would relay she was no longer sure she would actually return to Instagram" later in the conversation, she appeared to be considering the move "especially now, with Archetypes coming out," referring to her podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex’s show probed the tropes that hold women back and debuted as the number-one podcast in the U.S., United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada on Spotify's international charts upon its release last August. She welcomed guests including Serena William, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling and Paris Hilton across 12 episodes, and it was announced in June that Archewell Audio and Spotify were parting ways.

"Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together,” a joint statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's production company and Spotify said.

A representative from WME, the talent agency that the Duchess of Sussex signed with earlier this year, alluded that Archetypes might go on — in a new way.

“The team behind Archetypes remain proud of the podcast they created at Spotify. Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform,” a rep told The Wall Street Journal in June.

Spotify and Netflix were the much-discussed banner deals that Harry and Meghan signed after their U.S. move, and the programming they've produced for the streamer includes docuseries Harry and Meghan and Heart of Invictus.
