Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Go Glam as They Wrap Nigeria Tour at Polo Club Reception

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the renowned Lago Polo Club on their last day in Nigeria

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry headed to a familiar place for the final outing on their last day in Nigeria: the polo field!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the prestigious Lagos Polo Club for a reception in aid of Nigeria Unconquered. Founded in 1904, the Lagos Polo Club stands as one of Nigeria's oldest and most esteemed social clubs, renowned for its vibrant equestrian culture and polo tournaments.

The couple put on a glam display, with Meghan opting for a cream halter-style print dress by Johanna Ortiz, Burberry sandals and her go-to Heidi Merrick "Santa Barbara" sunglasses. Harry wore a button-up under a dark suit jacket and matching pants.

Shortly after their arrival, Harry and Meghan settled into their seats in the stands and enjoyed a pre-game parade. The parade featured children dressed in polo gear, carrying the green and white flag of Nigeria. Following them were a group of older children riding on horseback.

The two teams, Duke vs. Duchess, were then introduced. The game concluded with a score of 5-3 in favor of the Duchess's team. Following the match, Meghan and Harry awarded medals to the players, and Harry delivered an impromptu speech expressing gratitude for the hospitality at the club and throughout Nigeria.

For Harry, polo holds a significant place, as he has a long history with the sport, often participating in charity matches and supporting various polo-related initiatives. Currently, he is working on a Netflix series that delves into the world of polo, showcasing its rich history and cultural significance.

The reception at the Lagos Polo Club aimed to support Nigeria Unconquered, a charity dedicated to empowering wounded warriors through sports and rehabilitation programs.

As Nigeria recently joined Prince Harry's Invictus Games, the event served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for the country's athletes, highlighting the transformative impact of sports on their journey to recovery and resilience.

As a former captain in the British Armed Forces and founding patron of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive sports tournament for wounded, injured and sick service personnel, advocating for veterans and their families has long been close to Harry's heart.

In a speech at a reception for military families in Abuja on May 11, Harry acknowledged the "tragic loss of the brave souls” who’ve lost their lives in recent conflicts in the country.

“It reminds us of the true of service and the profound impact of conflict of children, families, and nations. My deepest condolences to all of the families," he said, adding, "As we look forward, let’s keep in mind that by uniting efforts we could make remarkable progress in acknowledging the sacrifice of many of our military personnel and, as important, their families. Offering support for their rehabilitation and recovery."
