You may have noticed that some corners of the internet are incredibly devoted to disproving Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's story about having a secret wedding ahead of their royal wedding — and now their rep is speaking out.

As a reminder, Meghan told Oprah that "three days before our wedding, we got married," adding, "We called the Archbishop and we just said, look, this thing, this spectacle, is for the world. But we want our union between us, so the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury."

Since this revelation, there's been some doubt about whether this secret wedding was officially official — and a former clerk even felt the need to tell The Sun, “I’m sorry, but Meghan is obviously confused and clearly misinformed. They did not marry three days earlier in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Special License I helped draw up enabled them to marry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor and what happened there on 19 May 2018 and was seen by millions around the world was the official wedding as recognized by the Church of England and the law.”

Now, a spokesperson for the couple has confirmed to The Daily Beast that the wedding wasn't official, saying “the couple exchanged personal vows a few days before their official/legal wedding on May 19.” The spokesperson also confirmed this back in in early March, but apparently no one was paying attention.

Honestly, all that matters is this smaller ceremony meant a lot to Meghan and Harry, and Meghan didn't claim this was their legal wedding! She simply told Oprah the vows that meant the most to her and Harry were the ones they told each other in the privacy of their own home.
