Ever since news of Meghan Markle’s guest-edited Vogue cover broke, more and more details of how the Duchess has spent the past year have followed. Today, Meghan posted new pictures of her pregnancy to announce her new clothing line — and reveal just how busy she was in the months leading up to baby Archie’s birth. It’s no secret that Meghan values her charity work, but her work for Vogue was a secret, making us wonder just how much more work Meghan was doing behind the scenes without our knowledge.

The Instagram posted on the Sussex Royals page announced Meghan’s new clothing line to benefit Smart Works, a charity that provides “clothing and coaching for unemployed women with interviews.” The caption describes how this project came together: “After quiet visits to Smartworks over the last year, The Duchess was moved by the impactful work being done by this non profit organization […] while the donations were plentiful, they were also notably a combination of mismatched items and colors which weren’t always the right stylistic choices or sizes.”

In response, Meghan decided to launch a collective helping women get the pieces they need — and as you’ll see from the final photo posted in this series, she was putting together that collective late into her pregnancy with Archie.

Spotlight on: Smart Works We are proud to be supporting a very special initiative this autumn for @SmartWorksCharity! After quiet visits to Smartworks over the last year, The Duchess was moved by the impactful work being done by this non profit organisation that helps women into the workforce, equipping them with both the skills and clothes they need to feel job-ready. Throughout her visits she noticed that while the donations were plentiful, they were also notably a combination of mismatched items and colours which weren’t always the right stylistic choices or sizes that didn’t necessarily “suit” the job at hand: to make a woman feel confident and inspired as she walked into her job interview. As a result, launching this autumn, The Duchess will be supporting a collective to help equip the women of Smart Works with the key workwear essentials they need as they enter into the workplace. This initiative is supported by four generous brands who share the vision to empower the women of Smart Works to look and feel 💯 as they bravely venture in to what can often be a daunting environment for those who have been out of the job market. The brands have come together to work towards this united force for good, “[reframing] the idea of charity as community,” as The Duchess writes in a piece for this month’s British Vogue. They will follow the 1:1 model where an item from the collection purchased is an item shared with a woman of Smart Works because “not only does this allow us to be part of each other’s story; it reminds us we are in it together.” For more information on how you can be part of another woman’s success story visit @smartworkscharity. Special thanks to: @JohnLewisandPartners, @MarksandSpencer, @MishaNonoo, @InsideJigsaw for supporting this very special organisation. Meghan’s clothing line will follow a “1:1 model:” when you buy an item from her collection, it will be shared with one of the women Smart Works support. Retailers John Lewis & Partners, Jigsaw, Marks and Spencer, and Misha Nonoo have paired with the Duchess on this initiative, which Meghan describes as “[reframing] the idea of charity as community.” She wants consumers to feel involved in the charitable efforts of this forthcoming clothing line — and if these photos teach us nothing else, it’s that a determined Meghan won’t let anything stop her. All through her pregnancy, Meghan was working harder than any of us knew, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
