As mum to two-year-old Archie, with a daughter on the way, Mother's Day 2021 (which was celebrated on 9 May in the US) was no doubt a very special occasion for Meghan Markle.

While we don't know how Meghan and Harry chose to spend the day privately (we're picturing cute homemade cards and cake, though), we know that Meghan marked the day in a moving way through a charitable donation and poignant public message.

Meghan and Harry's Archewell Foundation donated important supplies to Harvest Home, an LA-based charity which aims to transform the lives of homeless pregnant women and their children.

Taking to Instagram, Harvest Home said of the Mother's Day gesture:

"Today, we are thrilled to have the support of Archewell Foundation, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Procter & Gamble, who are donating diapers, cleaning supplies, and other essential items to ensure that the moms and babies at Harvest Home are celebrated all throughout the year."

The charity added that the "incredible Mother's Day surprise" was accompanied by an "inspiring" personal letter from Meghan, which it shared publicly.

Meghan's message was from her perspective as a mum of a toddler with a baby on the way, and in it she spoke movingly about the importance of community support when welcoming children into the world.

“As a mom, and an expectant mom, I deeply appreciate the significance of community support, safe and accessible pregnancy resources, and trusted guidance in a nurturing setting. These ingredients are essential to not just our physical health, but our mental well-being, and I commend you for leading a compassionate community that lives these values," Meghan wrote.

“Thank you for all you do for the women and mothers who are turned away elsewhere, at no fault of their own. When we consider how vulnerable any mother feels during the fragile time of pregnancy, we gain perspective about how especially difficult it can be for pregnant women of color and those who come from under-resourced and vulnerable communities. I hope you will accept an offer of support to help further uplift Harvest Home’s residents," she added.

As well as Meghan and Harry's celebration of mums everywhere, they took a moment recently to mark their son Archie's second birthday with an adorable new picture of him sweetly holding balloons in a garden.

Along with the photo, a story written by Team Archewell was shared on the site, reading:

"We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie’s birthday. Many of you donate to charities on his behalf, and mark the occasion by giving back or doing an act of service—all through the goodness of your hearts. You raise funds for those who need it most, and continue to do so organically and selflessly. We remain incredibly grateful."
