Megan Thee Stallion goes deeper into the underlying guitar riff in “Cobra” and updates the track with a rock remix. Released on Thursday (Nov. 9), the track features the Canadian band Spiritbox. Of the group, Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer add threatening screams and pristine guitar skills to the vulnerable track.

LaPlante also adds the lyrics, “Leave me alone in the dark/ I am shedding my skin/ I need to harden my heart/ To protect myself but the pain remains within.”

“Thank you Megan for allowing us the opportunity to collaborate on your already iconic new song ‘Cobra’. I am beyond grateful to you,” elaborated LaPlante on Instagram, celebrating the release.

“Thank you to Megan for trusting us to mash up both of our worlds,” added Stringer in a separate upload. “Nothing but respect, and gratitude. It’s an absolute honor.”

“Cobra” was initially released last week as the Houston rapper’s first solo track of the year. The track also marks a new beginning for the Grammy Award-winning performer as she now leads her career as an independent artist.

“Cobras exemplify courage and self-reliance,” explained a graphic shared by the 28-year-old. “They stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges, teaching one to tap into their inner strength and rely on oneself to conquer their threats. Emulating the cobra helps one be more confident in the person they are within.”
