Megan Fox is reflecting on her "unfulfilling" relationship with ex-husband Brian Austin Green.

The 37-year-old actress opened up on Wednesday's episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast about the pair's time together, which began when they first met on the set of Hope & Faith in 2004. They dated off and on before their marriage in 2010, and finalized their divorce in February 2022.

"I got myself into a relationship, which I of course found — no shade to Brian, unfulfilling — because inevitably, that's what I was going to do, because I was reenacting what I watched my mother do as a child," said Fox.

A rep for Green did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Thursday.

Fox and Green, 50, share three sons: Noah, 11, Bodhi, 10, and Journey, 7. On the podcast, the Jennifer's Body actress said, "I do feel like, karmically, I was supposed to have those kids with [Brian], of course."

"So I didn't realize ... you know, I wasn't looking at myself being like, 'Oh, I'm reenacting my mother's life' or 'I'm carrying my mother's burdens,' " she added.

A short while before making the latter comments, Fox admitted she "was not a great girlfriend to Brian," adding, "And he was not great to me either all the time, but I think it would be easy for me to lean into and complain about [it] or let it seem like that relationship was one way."

"Maybe I was not great. Because I was young and really should not have been in a relationship of that level of commitment and magnitude. I shouldn't have been involved in that when I was 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23; I shouldn't have been," said the Expend4bles star.

As a result, Fox said she "did a lot of, like, falling in love with other people all the time" over the course of her relationship with the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum.

"I would go to work and fall in love, because I was a kid," she said. "I never had the full freedom to be single and experience that life. And I thought for a minute when I got divorced that that's what I was gonna do, and I was single for, like, three weeks."

The actress filed for divorce (for a second time) in 2020, and is now engaged to Machine Gun Kelly. Green is engaged to Sharna Burgess, with whom he shares son Zane, 20 months. (The actor also shares 22-year-old son Kassius with Vanessa Marcil.)

During her podcast appearance, Fox recalled meeting Kelly, 33, on the set of their movie Midnight in the Switchgrass in 2020. They later got engaged in January 2022.

"We were doing a scene and I had seen his picture before he showed up and I knew just from his picture, I was like 'I recognize that person,' and I looked into his eyes and I was like, 'Oh yeah, it's you, I've known you for thousands of years,' " said Fox.
