The first full-length trailer for Megalopolis has dropped, and most fans are loving the look of director Francis Ford Coppola’s comeback movie.

Megalopolis is basically a Roman Empire fable set in an imagined modern-day United States. It pits utopian idealist Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) against greedy mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito). Just as Rome fell, so too is the USA in for a bad time.

Nathalie Emmanuel also stars as Julia Cicero, a socialite divided between her love for Cesar and her loyalty to her father, mayor Franklyn Cicero.

As you can see in the trailer below, there’s an impressionistic quality to the visuals, with the shadows of citizens cast on skyscraper walls as flaming projectiles rain from the sky. At one point there’s even a Roman chariot race in a coliseum. Here’s what people on Twitter are saying.

The Megalopolis trailer isn’t doing it for everybody, however. Some Twitter users are calling it a potential “spectacular mess,” with one saying it’s “comfortably one of the worst trailers I’ve ever seen.”

The film also features Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, and Dustin Hoffman. It’s set for release May 16.
