We were treated to a lot of great snapshots featuring some of our favorite stars thanks to last night’s Critics Choice Awards. But we didn’t expect to see a few celebrities who rarely hit the red carpet. Meg Ryan graced the Critics Choice Awards last night for a rare awards season appearance, and she looked happier and more confident than ever before.

The What Happens Later actress and director simply dazzled in a sequined Saint Laurent gown with her hair styled in a layered bob. Ryan smiled brightly as cameras flashed. She looked so elegant and incredibly happy to be there. The actress was also on hand to present during the awards ceremony.

It’s been a while — too long, if you ask us — since we’ve seen Ryan attend a red carpet event. The actress took a bit of a hiatus from her acting career between the mid-2010s and early 2020s. But with 2023’s What Happens Later, co-starring David Duchovny, Ryan officially announced her return to Hollywood.

“I took a giant break because I felt like there’s just so many other parts of my experience as a human being I wanted to develop,” Ryan told People back in October. “It’s nice to think of it as a job and not a lifestyle,” the actress said of her approach to her career. “And that is a great way of navigating it for me.”

Ryan was, and remains, one of the most reliable stars of the romantic comedy genre. Her credits include collaborations with late screenwriter Nora Ephron, such as When Harry Met Sally…, Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail. We’re so glad to see Ryan not only back on the big screen, but also back on the red carpet.
