In a 2010 interview with Esquire, the star said, “My dad was an absentee dad, so it was always important to me that I was part of my daughter’s life, and she deserved two parents, which is part of what informs us staying married for thirty years.”

Beginning in 1972, Samuel L. Jackson worked consistently in supporting roles on the stage and screen. However, the actor didn’t receive wide acclaim until he appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime drama Pulp Fiction as Jules Winnfield. In the decades since his breakout performance, Jackson has established himself as an incredibly talented actor, continuing to wow audiences around the world in one iconic role after the other. In addition to being a staple in Tarantino’s filmography, he’s starred in multiple box-office hits such as Jurassic Park, the Star Wars franchise, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

In 2016, Jackson received BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award and thanked his wife and daughter in his acceptance speech, crediting them with his recovery from drug addiction. He shared, “The two women that actually found me passed out on the floor after I left somebody’s bachelor party put my a– in rehab the next day, and supported me and pushed me and give me a reason to get up and go and chase it day after day after day.”
