Louisville native Jack Brewer remembers the moment he fell in love with musical theater. He was in elementary school and his parents had taken him to the Kentucky Center for the PNC Broadway in Louisville national tour of "Wicked."

"I still have very vivid memories of what I was watching on stage that night," Brewer told the Courier Journal. "I remember thinking what the actors were doing on stage in Whitney Hall was so cool and it was something I wanted to try."

The experience inspired the South Oldham High School 2017 graduate to pursue musical theater at the Oldham County Schools Art Center.

"It's where I took dance classes and learned about theater," he said. "The first musical I did was when I was 9 years old. It was 'The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia).' I imagine it was probably pretty horrible but it was a lot of fun and I knew I wanted to keep acting."

After graduating with a degree in musical theater from the University of Cincinnati, Brewer moved to New York City and within a year, was cast in the national touring production of Disney's hit Broadway musical "Frozen."

"I've been on the road touring for a year and I would say that the adults in our audiences are pleasantly surprised at how it's more than a kid's show, it's really a show for all ages," he said. "It's a big spectacle like other Disney productions. Think the 'The Lion King' and 'Aladdin.'"

"Frozen," the Tony-nominated Best Musical, features the songs audiences will recognize from the original Oscar-winning film, plus an expanded score with a dozen new numbers by the film’s songwriters, Oscar winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez and EGOT winner Robert Lopez.

As a member of the musical's ensemble, Brewer appears in several roles, the most notable being the character of Oaken. The Louisville native performs a six-minute song at the beginning of the second act.

While in Louisville, Brewer is adding additional responsibility to his performances on stage. The touring cast and crew have made him their official tour guide while they are visiting his hometown.

"I have been giving this a lot of thought," he told the Courier Journal. "We'll visit a downtown distillery, Please & Thank You for chocolate chip cookies, the boutiques in Nulu, and for the adventurous, we can go ziplining at the Louisville Mega Cavern."

The 15-show run of "Frozen" at the Kentucky Center will be more than a homecoming for Brewer. He believes it will be a full circle moment performing on the stage where his passion for musical theater began.

"The fact that I am coming back to Kentucky Center and will be performing on the same stage where I first fell in love with musical theater is amazing," Brewer told the Courier Journal. "I hope I can inspire someone in the audience in the same way I was inspired when I was in the audience watching 'Wicked" as a kid."
