Meet the New Jersey actors and actresses nominated for Emmy Awards

With the buzz of the Golden Globes settling down, the next extravagant event on the calendar is the 2023 Emmy Awards on Monday, Jan. 15.

According to an article from Bet Massachusetts that breaks down the home states of the 103 Emmy Nominated actors and actresses, three of this year's nominees are from New Jersey.

This number ties New Jersey with Kentucky at fifth place for the states with the most nominees.

Pennsylvania and Michigan are tied for fourth, each with four nominees. Illinois and Massachusetts are tied for third with seven nominees each. New York is in second place with 11 nominees and California is in first place with 15 nominees.

Meet New Jersey's three Emmy nominees for 2023:

Nathan Lane, Jersey City

Jersey City born actor Nathan Lane is nominated for the award of outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his role as Teddy Dimas in Hulu's comedy-drama "Only Murders in the Building."

This is his eighth Emmy nomination. He won one Emmy prior to this which was also for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series as Teddy Dimas in "Only Murders in the Building" in 2022.

Lane is most famously known for his roles as Timon in "The Lion King" and Albert in "The Birdcage."

Trenton-born, Tony Award-winning actress Judith Light was nominated, and already crowned the winner, of the award for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for her role as Irene Smothers in "Poker Face," a comedy-drama series streaming on Peacock.

This award was her fifth Emmy nomination but her first win.

Light is well known for roles such as Angela Bower in "Who's the Boss" and Karen Wolek on "One Life to Live," and a role that led her to win two Daytime Emmy Awards.

Ray Liotta, Newark

Newark born actor Ray Liotta is nominated for the award of outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for his role as Big Jim Keene in Apple TV's "Black Bird."

This is Liotta's second nomination. Liotta won the Emmy for his first nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series as Charlie Metcalf in "ER" in 2005.

Best known for his roles in "Goodfellas," "Field of Dreams," "Another World," and much more, Liotta died in May 2022 following the completion of filming for his role in 'Black Bird.'

2023 Emmys ... in 2024?

The 2023 Emmy Awards will air on Monday night, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m. EST from Los Angeles on Fox.

The Emmy Awards are celebrating their 75th anniversary with this broadcast, which was pushed back from it's original date of Sept. 18, 2023 due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG_AFTRA strikes, which have since ended.

The 2024 Emmy Awards will take place sometime in September.
