A television series is only as good as its cast, which is probably why Hallmark Channel's When Calls the Heart is so popular amongst its fans at the moment. While Hope Valley may be a fictional town, it's certainly real in our hearts, and viewers have the talented actors and actresses to thank for that. Throughout the show's extensive 11-season run, When Calls the Heart devotees have been introduced to many characters—most of whom are loved and a select few who have caused some trouble. Still, it takes skill to garner a dedicated fanbase, and this list of When Calls the Heart cast members will give you a little more insight to those behind the magic of it all.
Obviously, the show wouldn't be what it is without its lead, Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton. While she's the constant anchor in each season, there are also plenty of other actors worth knowing about, including those who play characters like Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) and Mei Sou (Amanda Wong). Erin Krakow as Elizabeth Thornton
Erin Krakow has the leading role of Elizabeth Thornton, a Hope Valley school teacher with charm and passion. Elizabeth is the widow to Jack Thornton as well as mother of Little Jack. While she may experience plenty of ups-and-downs in her love life, one thing remains constant, and it's her admiration for the young generation and willingness to supply them with a bright future.
Krakow had an early stage career (with roles in The Importance of Being Earnest and the stage adaptation of Steel Magnolias). She has since taken on the small screen by storm, appearing in shows like Army Wives and Guiding Light, as well as a bunch of Hallmark Christmas films such as Marrying Father Christmas and Sense, Sensibility and Snowmen.
Pascale Hutton as Rosemary Coulter
Pascale Hutton embodies the role of Rosemary Coulter, the ride-or-die BFF of Elizabeth. Rosemary takes on the role of editor at the town's newspaper, and is married to Leland Coulter on the show. You'll catch her spewing some witty one-liners throughout each episode, too.
Hutton is a Hallmark Channel native, having starred in plenty of original movies on the network like My One and Only, Summer of Dreams, The Perfect Bride and its sequel, The Perfect Bride: Wedding Bells. Outside of that, she also has roles in series like Arctic Air and movies like Double Life.
Jack Wagner as Bill Avery
Jack Wagner is Bill Avery, Hope Valley's former sheriff and current judge. He entered the scene during the town's mine explosion debacle as a Mountie Inspector, but has stayed in Hope Valley ever since.
Outside of When Calls the Heart,Wagner has the leading role in The Wedding March film-franchise, and previously starred in the popular soap opera, General Hospital. Wagner is also a singer, with five albums produced after his 1984 musical debut.
Kavan Smith as Leland Coulter
You know Kavan Smith as Leland Coulter, husband to Rosemary, and one of the nicest people you'll come across on the show. He's the man responsible for creating an abundance of jobs by opening a sawmill after Hope Valley's mining company shutdown due to an explosion.
Smith's other works include his lead role on TV series, Destiny Ridge and other appearances in projects such as Human Target, Smallville, and Supernatural.
Chris McNally as Lucas Bouchard
Chris McNally is the famous (sometimes infamous) Lucas Bouchard. He came to Hope Valley—after years and years of traveling—with the hopes of finally settling down. He was together with Elizabeth for a while (even becoming engaged!), but the two have since called it quits after he was elected as the town's governor.
McNally has appeared on several hit television series, including Killer Instinct, Falling Skies and Supernatural. He also had a repeated role in Netflix's Altered Carbon. Like many of his costars, McNally has many credits in Hallmark films such as A Winter Princess and Eat, Drink & Be Buried: A Gourmet Detective Mystery.
Kevin McGarry as Nathan Grant
Kevin McGarry acts as the wonderful Nathan Grant, adoptive parent to Allie and the town's Constable. He came onto the show during season 6, and was an immediate support system to Elizabeth following the death of Jack. He and Elizabeth have a shaky love history, but who's to say it can't work out in the future?
McGarry is a seasoned actor, taking on roles in shows like Heartland, Schitt’s Creek, and Ransom. His other Hallmark acting gigs include the movies Christmas Scavenger Hunt, Love at First Bark, and Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To Paris With Love.
Andrea Brooks as Faith Carter
Andrea Brooks portrays Faith Carter, a town nurse who has a keen interest in fixing people, both physically and emotionally. Like other Hope Valley residents, her love life has seen better days—but Andrea always has an optimistic attitude, which makes her a fan-favorite.
Brooks is otherwise known for her roles in a few series: Supergirl, Bates Motel, and Once Upon a Time. The Canadian-born actress is also a familiar Hallmark face, showing up in the flicks In the Key of Love, The Sweetest Heart, and Summer in the City.
Martin Cummins as Henry Gowen
Martin Cummins portrays Henry Gowen, who was initially the town villain. This stemmed from the fact that he was the leader of the town's coal mine before it exploded, which had everyone view him as the enemy. He developed a rather sour personality, which only added to his reputation. However, his friendship with Elizabeth impacted him in a positive way, slowly changing the way that he acts—but emphasis on slowly. People no longer hate him, but he's still not the most liked character.
Gowen has been in series like Bates Motel, and the Netflix original, Away. He also regularly appeared on Riverdale and has cowrote the film We All Fall Down starring Ryan Reynolds.
Viv Leacock as Joseph Canfield
Viv Leacock is who you know as Joseph Canfield, Hope Valley's pastor who was introduced in season 8. He's a wholesome character who people turn to when they need some serious life advice. He is a husband and father, and his family dynamics begin to get explored more in the later seasons of the show.
Leacock's first supporting role was in the movie I Spy, starring Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. From there, he went on to act in numerous projects, including Intern Academy, Are We There Yet?, Are We Done Yet?, and This Means War (which stars Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon).
Amanda Wong as Mei Sou
Amanda Wong plays Mei Sou, someone who fans recently met in season 9. You might remember the iconic entrance Mei made on the show, when she rode into town in man's clothes, only to be revealed as a woman later on. This is because Mei was initially trying to hide her identity since she was a fugitive in a past life, but there's a reason behind everything, and Mei has a good heart!
Wong is featured in the shows Mystery 101 and Welcome to Surrey as Skylar, and A Million Little Things. She also dabbles in voice acting, and can be heard in the Netflix original, The Healing Powers of Dude as well as in the video game, Madden NFL 22.
Natasha Burnett as Minnie Canfield
Natasha Burnett is Minnie Canfield, a kind woman and wife to Joseph whom she shares a daughter with. She never lets anyone leave a conversation without a smile.
Burnett began her career on the stage, starring as Diana Ross in The Magic of Motown. After this stint, she went on to develop a career in television with roles in Supergirl and The Good Doctor, and then ventured to the Hallmark Channel playing parts in the movie Legend of the Lost Locket and Sweet Revenge: Hannah Swensen Mystery Series.
Ben Rosenbaum as Mike Hickam
Ben Rosenbaum plays Mike Hickam, a character that has been around since the show's inception, but one that also doesn't seem to get too involved in much of anything. (Good for him!) He currently has an interest in Mei, but his shy persona is seeing the relationship between the two move rather slow.
Rosenbaum has been in a couple of wholesome and feel-good movies, with credits in It Was Always You and Christmas Inheritance. He was also in a few episodes of American Horror Story in the show's earlier days.
Kayla Wallace as Fiona Miller
Kayla Wallace is the witty Fiona Miller, a gal who has skills in all things radio and tech. She is the reason many people in the town are able to have connections and media from the outside world. Oh, and she's a matchmaker! She's the one who encouraged Mike to make a move on Mei. Now, she's hoping to see some of that love blossom in her own life.
Wallace's earlier career interests resides on the stage, but she realized her calling was on television. She has acted in shows like The Good Doctor and on Breckman Rodeo. She was also a lead in the suspenseful film, Terrified at 17.
