Media Laps Up Donald Trump’s “Private” Mitt Romney Dinner

A flock of press infiltrated that “private dinner” between President-elect Donald Trump and former Dump-Trump spokesman/maybe next SoS Mitt Romney, resulting in the kind of breathless coverage usually reserved for fangirls’ One Direction sightings.

Among them, CNN’s Jim Acosta got a “tip” as to when and where the dinner would take place, and made a reservation, then live-tweeted the get-together, announcing “Exclusive: Trump, Romney and Priebus arrive for dinner at Jean Georges in NYC,” in a nice plug for Nougatine, a Jean-Georges restaurant in Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan.

Among Acosta’s revelations: Trump crossed his arms “for a good while” as Romney smiled and spoke, fresh marshmallows were prepared as Trump, Romney and Priebus dined, after which Trump, Romney and Priebus moved on to dessert. Also, Romney laughed as Trump talked and gestured, and there was “noo sign of any animosity” from the campaign. Tragically, Acosta was discovered by Trump while doing his undercover reporting: Moments ago… Trump: Hello Jim.#busted.”

Also unfortunate, Acosta’s presence turned out not to be so exclusive, though other members of the media appear to have been invited by TeamTrump, including photographers for AP, Getty etc.:

Another reporter, in fact, got the exclusive that only one of the table’s three place settings included wine, speculating it was for Priebus, given that neither Trump nor Romney partake of alcohol.

Further accommodating the press, Romney addressed a press gaggle outside the restaurant after they were done dining on frogs and chocolate cake, revealing, “I’ve had a wonderful evening with President-elect Trump…We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world” adding, “these discussions I have had with him have been enlightening and interesting and engaging. I have enjoyed them very, very much.”

Romney acknowledged to the gaggle that, unlike himself, Trump managed to win the general election, and “continues with a message of inclusion and bringing people together and his vision is something which obviously connected with the American people in a very powerful way.”
