Daniel Franzese thinks Mean Girls 2 would be “so fetch” — and he’s not the only one.

“We all want it,” Franzese exclusively tells PEOPLE of the original cast of the popular 2004 movie.

The Recovery Road actor, 45, was opening up to PEOPLE at the New York Premiere of the new Mean Girls film on Monday.

“You got to tell the boss lady [Tina Fey] over there. I'm sure [she's] heard it a million times, but she's the gatekeeper, so we're all waiting,” he adds, referring to the comedian who penned the original movie script and the 2018 Broadway musical of the same name, which the new film is based upon.

Franzese notes that the entire original cast still keep in touch and “are all down” to make a Mean Girls 2. He also said there’s still a lot of “love” between them.

“We all talk when we can,” the actor explains. “It's very difficult. We were all really busy, but I love them also.”

Last year, Franzese got a taste of how it would feel to step back into the shoes of his iconic Mean Girls character, Damian, for a series of Walmart Black Friday ads alongside his original costars stars, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert.

“Oh my God it was so much fun to be with everybody,” he shares of the campaign. “I was wondering, am I even going to feel what it feels like to be Damian again? Then once I put it all on, I was like ‘Oh wow, this is something that's in me still.’”

“I would love to do more,” he adds.

2004's original Mean Girls also starred Rachel McAdams and Lizzy Caplan. In the film, Lohan portrayed Cady, a high school student who had just moved to the United States from Africa and faced social isolation at her new school before being introduced to teen queen bees Karen Smith (Seyfried), Gretchen Wieners (Chabert), and their leader Regina George (McAdams) — known as The Plastics.

The new movie musical stars Angourie Rice as Cady, Renée Rapp as Regina George (reprising her Broadway role), Auli'i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Avantika as Karen and Bebe Wood as Gretchen. The film’s trailer has also hinted at several cameos in the film, including one from Ashley Park, who played Gretchen Wieners in the original Broadway production.

Fey first announced she was adapting the Mean Girls musical into a movie musical in January 2020 and the cast was unveiled in December 2022. Three months later, Fey revealed that she and Tim Meadows would reprise their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall.

The new Mean Girls is in theaters Jan. 12.
