The digital release of the 2024 musical remake of Mean Girls arrived on February 20th, but not included was a joke utilizing the term “fire crotch,” which was reportedly removed after Lindsay Lohan expressed “hurt and disappointment” over the remark.
The joke in question is delivered by Megan Thee Stallion, portraying herself. Stating her support for the film’s protagonist, Cady Heron (Angourie Rice), she says: “We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!”
Lohan, who portrayed Cady in the 2004 original and even makes a cameo in the new 2024 film, expressed her distaste for the joke through a publicist, Leslie Sloane, who told The Messenger that she was “very hurt and disappointed by the reference.” The term “fire crotch” was previously associated with her in 2006 when socialite Brandon Davis made derogatory comments about her in a viral video featuring Paris Hilton.
Now, the new Mean Girls is available for digital purchase on most major platforms, and the “fire crotch” has been edited out, with Megan only saying “We are going back red.” The film originally premiered on January 12th, and was praised by Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller for its updates and “savvy incorporation of social media and TikTok culture.”
The 2024 version of Mean Girls is now available for purchase digitally, and will be released Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 30th. That same day will also see the first 4K Ultra HD release of the original 2004 Mean Girls film.
