Mean Girls Cast: Here’s Where You’ve Seen the Movie-Musical Stars on TV

If you happen to fetch a ticket to a screening of (not your mother’s) Mean Girls this weekend and find yourself wondering where you’ve seen some of the actors before, the answer is… TV!

More from TVLine

The big-screen adaptation of the Mean Girls Broadway musical is stacked with small-screen stars. And while the cast does include several fresh faces — like Tony Award nominee Jaquel Spivey, who’s making his screen debut as Damian — it’s also loaded with familiar ones that you’ve been watching for years. Or in some cases, decades.

From live televised musicals to Emmy Award-winning sitcoms to one of the hottest teen dramas at the moment, this cast’s collective resume covers an insanely wide spectrum.

Scroll down to see which TV shows you know (or should know) the new Mean Girls cast from, then drop a comment with your thoughts on the movie-musical below.

1. Angourie Rice as Cady Heron

North Shore High is a far more vibrant setting than the last place you probably saw Rice, playing Kate Winslet’s daughter on HBO’s Mare of Easttown (2021). The Australian actress also starred in a Season 5 episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror (2019), and she can currently be seen opposite Jennifer Garner on the Apple TV+ miniseries The Last Thing He Told Me.

2. Reneé Rapp as Regina George

Between playing Regina in the original Broadway production of Mean Girls (2019–2020) and reprising the role on the big screen in 2024, Rapp starred as Leighton Murray in Mindy Kaling’s Max comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021–2022). She announced in July 2023 that she would not be returning for the show’s upcoming third season.

3. Auli’i Cravalho as Janis ‘Imi’ike

Though she’s best known for voicing the title character in Disney’s Moana (2016), Cravalho has also made beautiful music on TV, first as Lilette on NBC’s short-lived high school theater drama Rise (2018), then as Ariel in ABC’s production of The Little Mermaid Live! (2019). In 2023, she played Jos on Prime Video’s The Power and voiced Hailey on Disney Channel’s Hailey’s On It!

4. Avantika as Karen Shetty

If you have a young child, or you still are one, you’ve probably encountered Avantika via one of her Disney TV projects — either as the voice of Kamala on Disney Jr.’s Mira, Royal Detective (2020); as Monyca on Disney+’s Diary of a Future President (2020); or as Rhea in the Disney Channel Original Movie Spin (2021). She also had a supporting role in the Rebel Wilson Netflix movie Senior Year (2022).

Fun fact: Avantika also guest-starred in an episode of The Sex Lives of College Girls, which starred Rapp (aka Regina).

5. Bebe Wood as Gretchen Wieners

Despite being one of Mean Girls‘ youngest cast members, Wood has an impressively extensive small-screen resume. Perhaps you remember her as Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha’s co-star on NBC’s short-lived The New Normal (2012–2013)? Or maybe you think of her as Noah Galvin’s little sister on ABC’s The Real O’Neals (2016–2017)? And if you were a fan of Hulu’s Love, Victor (2020–2022), Wood is also probably fresh in your mind as social media maven Lake Meriwether.

Fun fact: This isn’t Wood’s first time working with Tina Fey. She guest-starred on a 2012 episode of 30 Rock when she was just 11 years old.

6. Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels

No stranger to on-screen love triangles, Briney stars as Conrad on Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, which aired its first two seasons in 2022 and 2023, with a third on the way.

7. Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron

Here’s another easy one. Even if you’ve never watched a single episode of The Office (2005–2013), you surely know Fischer as one half of sitcom supercouple Jim and Pam, along with John Krasinski as the former. After leaving Dunder Mifflin in her rearview, Fischer spent two seasons opposite Oliver Hudson on ABC’s Splitting Up Together (2018–2019), and one more on the short-lived British comedy You, Me and the Apocalypse, which aired Stateside on NBC in 2016.

8. Busy Philipps as Mrs. George

Honestly, what show don’t you know Philipps from? After playing Kim Kelly on Paul Feig and Judd Apatow’s Fox comedy Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), Philipps graduated to college via her role as Audrey Liddell on The WB’s Dawson’s Creek (2001–2003). Following a stint as Dr. Hope Bobeck on NBC’s ER (2006–2007), Philipps’ next major TV role was that of Laurie Keller on ABC/TBS’ Cougar Town (2009–2015). She currently stars as Summer on Peacock/Netflix’s Girls5eva, which returns for its third season on March 14.

9. Tina Fey as Ms. Norbury

All hail Fey. Not only is this bespectacled genius responsible for writing the original Mean Girls movie, the Broadway musical and this new hybrid, but she has also starred in and created some of the funniest TV shows of all time. Most notably, the Saturday Night Live alum (1997–2006) went on to become the creator and star of NBC’s Emmy Award-winning comedy 30 Rock (2006–2013). In addition to appearing on other shows she co-created — including Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–2020) and Girls5eva (2021) — she also has a recurring role as Cinda Canning on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

10. Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall

Besides knowing him as the principal from the original Mean Girls movie, you’re probably most familiar with Meadows’ work on NBC’s Saturday Night Live (1991–2000), where he created timeless characters like the Ladies’ Man. Meadows has remained a welcome presence on TV ever since, making guest appearances on dozens of huge shows. His longest-running character has been Andre Glascott, which began on ABC’s The Goldbergs (2012–2023) and migrated to its short-lived spinoff Schooled (2019–2020).

11. Jon Hamm as Coach Carr

11. Jon Hamm as Coach Carr

Let’s be honest, Coach Carr understands women about as well as Mad Men‘s Don Draper, the role that made Hamm a household name (2007–2015). And Hamm has never not been on television since his Mad Men days, racking up particularly memorable roles like Reverend Wayne on Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–2020), Archangel Gabriel on Prime Video’s Good Omens (2019–2023) and Paul Marks on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show (2023). He currently plays Sheriff Tillman on FX’s Fargo and voices Detective Flute on the animated Fox comedy Grimsburg.

12. Ashley Park as Madame Park

If Park speaking French felt familiar, you probably know her as Mindy on Netflix’s Emily in Paris (correctly pronounced Em-i-lee in Pair-ee). She also recurs as Ashley on Peacock-turned-Netflix’s Girls5eva, Naomi on Netflix’s BEEF and Kimber on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

Park also originated the role of Gretchen Wieners in the original Broadway production of Mean Girls, hence her involvement in the film.
